AbstractField monitoring and laboratory tests were carried out to evaluate the rate of subsidence of AIT Campus and to evaluate the soil properties, respectively. In-situ strength was investigated by field vane shear tests to find the subsoil properties. And additional monitoring instruments were installed. Remedial measures for repair of structural damages were also proposed in this thesis. From the surface levelling, the average settlement is 4.76cm and the maximum settlement of ground surface is 12.43cm in 14 months period at the area of parking lot. The average settlement in 3.21cm and the maximum settlement of pavement is 15.16cm at the walkway between football and hockey filed. the settlement of buildings was found a maximum of 10.63cm which occurred in NZ Housing Faculty area. The dormitories. library and AIT Center are encountered little subsidence. The pore pressure has large drawdown compared to the hydrostatic pressure line especially in the upper layers. The shallow piezometers showed pore pressure declination increasing with time. According to the field vane shear tests, there exists a soft clay layer interbedded with very soft clay and sandy clay layer below AIT Campus in areas where evidence of subsidence occur. From the laboratory tests, the soil already reached normal consolidation state below6.0m depth. The first floor walls and floors shall be repaired by supporting with tie beams connected to pile foundations. The pavements shall be repaired using laterite subgrade near drainage conduits to prevent erosion.
