AbstractSeveral dams in Northeast Thailand made of dispersive soils failed by erosion and tunneling. Most of the dispersive soils are inorganic sandy, silty clay of low plasticity which have higher content of dissolved sodium in pore water. The addition of bentonite have no effect on the dispersity. addition of 20% to 30% of Bangkok clay changed the soil to be non-dispersive. Crumb test preliminary indicate the dispersity while pinhole test and chemical test are needed to ascertain the dispersivity. Liquid limits linearly increasing with increasing clay percentage while permeability decreased with increasing clay percentage. Optimum water content and maximum dry density obtained from Harvard miniature compaction and standard proctor compaction test have very close relationship with decreasing maximum dry density and increasing moisture content with increasing percentage of clay admixture. Deviator stress decreased with mixing clay content. Strength Parameters(0, 0) decreased with increasing clay percentage. In the static state seepage condition, the Phitsanulok dispersive soil site with 40% clay have more than 1.5 of safety factor in total and effective slope stability analyses
