AbstractThis thesis presents an analysis to the behavior of Bangkok soft clays during monotonic as well as cyclic loadings using four constitutive models, i.e. 1) the original Pender's model, 2) the model modified by Pender, 3) the model modified by the author, 4) mroz's (two-surface) model. In this study three existing models were applied to Bangkok soft clays and then Pender's model modified by the author was introduced to overcome several detects revealed in the application of the existing model to cyclic loadings. The mode calculations were made by microcomputer programs and demonstrated in the form of stress paths, sress-strain relationship, shear strain vs. number of cycles and pore pressure vs. number of cycles. The results obtained by the existing models showed good agreements with the experimental results in most cases of the monotonic loading tests. However these existing models hardly provided good predictions in the cyclic loading tests. The Pender's model modified by the author improved shear strain vs. number of cycles relationship and the shape of hysteresis loops and the degradation phenomena were also attained.
