AbstractThe available optimization algorithms for critical path computations, the time-cost tradeoff analysis and the resource levelling problem are expended to a more realistic overlapping precedence network. The method of analysis for optimizing the network technique involves the use of a Linear Programming Model and a least Squares Method for the time-cost tradeoff and the resource levelling problems respectively. A complete computer program is developed from the combination of the extended algorithms and linear programming models. The program is capable of providing any type of network based information whenever needed, prior to or during the construction operation. The Solution satisfies the requirement that the project be completed within a fixed project completion time and is optimal in terms of cost. The newly developed computer program for the optimal network analysis requires information on network details, cost-duration charts, types of resources and the work content of every activity in terms of resource-days for the project.
