AbstractIn this study a microcomputer package for analysing prestressed concrete box girder bridges is developed on an 8-bit microcomputer. The conventional finite strip method is used for linear elastic analysis. In this method harmonic functions which fit the simply supported end conditions in the longitudinal direction are used in conjunction with simple polynomial functions for the transverse direction. Stiffness matrices for both bending and in-plane analysis are developed for a strip with an isotropic property, and by dividing the right box girder into a number of strips any combination of loadings can be easily dealt with. After solving the linear simultaneous equations relating the unknown displacements to the applied loadings for the nodal line displacements, the stresses at any point of a strip can be calculated. The package may also be used for the analysis of other similar structures such as folded plate roots. The typical loading patterns which are taken into account are concentrated loads, uniform patch loads and restressing forces. A user's manual for the package is developed in this study. the analysis of a typical box girder bridge subjected to several types of loadings is carried out and a high state of accuracy is obtained.
