AbstractA survey about various precast single floor elements available in Thailand has been made through contacting 14 manufacturers in Bangkok, The information collected comprises the section properties, the methods of erection, the construction cost, and the advantages and the disadvantages of the elements. The elements can be classified into 5 major sections; i.e., the single-tee, the double-tee, the channel, the plank, and the hollow-core sections. Each of the 34 elements with the provided reinforcement is analysed for its load resisting capacity, in accordance with ACI 318-83 code and the building code of the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT), considering both the load carrying capacity (ultimate load), and the serviceability (deflection), for various span lengths of 3.00, 4.00, 5.00, 6.00, 8.00 10.00, 12.00m. The results are then combined and presented in various charts of the safe imposed load per unit area against span lengths, and guidance tables containing the information about various floor elements applicable. The details in dimension and reinforcement, the construction cost, the weight per unit length, and the load resisting capacity are provided for users to select a suitable floor element. standard regulations about fire resistance of the concrete floor are summarized. A table comparing the over all suitability of 5 major sections is also given.
