AbstractThe work reported in this thesis is concerned with the calculation of the dynamic response of a cable-stayed bridge under natural wing loading. The bridge can be either completed or under erection conditions and it can be analysed by either linear or nonlinear elastic analysis. The method is based on the step-by-step time integration of the equations of motion. Atmospheric turbulence is simulated on a digital computer with stochastic models. The buffeting characteristics of the bridge are investigated by the computer packages developed at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology where they were applied to suspension bridge analysis. The results which represent the first cable-stayed bridge application are compared with those obtained by another method.
