AbstractIn this study, design analysis of cable network system is considered when the final shape of the structure has been used as the primary consideration. Keeping this in mind, the unstable, determinate and indeterminate cable network systems have been analysed by considering a set of optimization criteria and their possible combination. Upto the author's knowledge no such analysis is available to analyse cable network system, keeping the final shape in mind. Since this analysis is formulated as nonlinear programming problem it will not yield a unique solution. Therefore a unique solution is obtained by using the appropriate optimization criteria. A set of governing equations with respect to the shape change are developed and validated through numerical examples. As a result, an analytical procedure for the design of all varieties of cable network system are formulated as nonlinear programming problem. Consequently a simple analytical method to arrive at the most stiff structure has evolved. Reviewing the current stage of research and a feasible outline for future research in design analysis of cable network system are also presented.
