AbstractExperimental testings were carried out in order to investigate the characteristic behavior of components in the vicinity of steel beam-to-composite column connections and compare the different types of connections. Two prototype specimens, each consisting of a center composite column and two overhanging steel beam connected to the encased steel column by different types of welded connections i.e., column flange and web connections. The beams were statically and symmetrically loaded while the column load was maintained constant. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical values based on the case without concrete encasement. Test results revealed that the load carrying capacity of the column flange connection was higher than that of the column web connection and the concrete encasement effectively reduced the stresses in connection components. Stress fields in the vicinity of connections were given.
