AbstractThe Tamban Luar Tidal Irrigation Project is located in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, The canal network was designed by Gadjah Mada University and constructed in 1970. Some factors are known hampering the development of the system. The most important factor are poor surface water regime, poor water quality and toxic soils for crops. A harmonic analysis was done for water level data in the river and canal network. Using the parameter obtained from the analysis, the tide characteristic in the tertiary system can be known and the problem of surface water regime can be evaluated. The water quality was observed mainly to detect the exposure of pyrite in the field as it can act as a toxic material in the soil for crops. Also the water quality was observed and classified based on criteria of irrigation water. it is found from the study that in the mouth and middle part of tertiary channels. Water can overspill to the fields, but not in the end part. Hence, there are 2 types of fields in the tertiary system, flooded and unflooded. Based on irrigation water quality criteria, river water can be used as irrigation water, but stagnant water should be avoided.
