AbstractThe study is aimed to investigate the characteristics of hydraulic jump in adverse sloping prismatic channel. An attempt is made to compare the hydraulic jump features for the triangular, parabolic and rectangular shapes. The experimental results are also checked against the theoretical results for the horizontal triangular and parabolic channels. The experiments are conducted in triangular and parabolic tilting flumes by varying the discharge for slopes of 0 to 0.05 at an increment of 0.005. The water depths before and after the jump are measured by an movable point gauge. Length of the jump is measured along the side walls of the flume while the discharge is calculated from the head reading of the 90 degree V-notch weir. The experimental results are reported in the form of tables and graphs. Good agreement has been obtained between the experimental and theoretical results. The graphical results provide a guide line and a clear picture of all the parameters associated with hydraulic jump for solving problems in adverse sloping triangular, parabolic and rectangular channels.
