AbstractThe objective of the study is to develop the effective means of sediment control in the power intake for small hydro plant. To Accomplish the objective of this study, the problem of the sediment intrusion through the intake of Mae Kum Luang small hydro plant, Thailand, was under taken as a case study. A hydraulic scale model of the intake structure of Mae Kim Luang small hydro plant was constructed and to determine the effective sediment controlling measure for that project, model test were carried out with different modifications in the intake area for all possible operation conditions in the prototype. The results obtained from this study show that the sediment intrusion into the system can be controlled upto the satisfactory level with proposed modified arrangements in the project.
