AbstractAn attempt was made to develop an unified functional relationship among drawdown, discharge, distance and time as variables in dimensionless form confined aquifer. The governing groundwater flow equation in confined aquifer was expressed in dimensionless form and the finite difference technique was used to solve this equation using grid spacing, pumping rate, pumping time and anisotropy ratio as input variables. Using the results on responses in dimensionless form, an unified functional relationship was developed between the dimensionless discharge-drawdown and distance-time variables. The validity of this relation was checked by comparing the responses from both the analytical and empirical methods for isotropic and anisotropic aquifers with different boundary conditions and pumping patterns.
