Abstract | As Thailand is the country with the second highest estimated road fatality rate, there is a need to address this issue. With the tremendous rise of mobile phone usage among both young and adults in nationwide and worldwide. The impact of distraction among pedestrian while using mobile phone is being addressed and recommended to be considered by safety experts. This research is a comparative study which strives to find the impact of distraction due to phone in pedestrians while crossing roads. Observations made were from on-campus and off-campus sites concerning unsafe behaviors and walking speeds of phone users i.e. calling, texting, listening to music. To compare the difference of safety, a normal group i.e. people not using phones while crossing roads were also observed and their data was collected. Not just the behaviors but also their socio-economic factors, regular mobile usage data, and attitude towards safety were also collected. One-way ANOVA test was run to analyze the impact on walking speeds of pedestrians with different behaviors. Binary Regression Model was used to analyze all the remaining data. Mobile phone users display a significant amount of unsafe behavior when compared to those who do not use any. Different use of mobile phone exhibits different unsafe behaviors. |
