AbstractAs Thailand is the country with the second highest estimated road fatality rate, there is a need to address this issue, with the tremendous rise of violating the pedestrian signal both young and adults in nationwide and worldwide. This research is a comparative study which strives to find the impact of presence of countdown timer on pedestrians while crossing roads. Observations were made from multiple sites of intersections across bangkok concerning unsafe behaviors of pedestrians while crossing the road. To compare the difference of safety, four intersections of which two were with no countdown timer intersection and other two of countdown timer intersections. People who are crossing roads were observed and their data was collected. Not just the behaviors but also their socioeconomic factors, age, gender, and attitude towards safety were also observed. Chisquare test and t test is used to analyze the impact on violations of pedestrians with different behaviors. Binary Regression Model was used to analyze all the data and in conclusion it was found that risk taking behavior of the pedestrian was highly dependent on the presence of countdown timer. This study also shows majority of violations that took place were at non countdown timer intersection and relatively less violations due to late walkers at intersection with countdown timer This study also discusses that correlation of independent variable such as age and gender also have measurable impact on those who violate at pedestrian crossing.
