AbstractBangkok, capital of Thailand, is facing a heavy traffic problem in nowadays. A parkand-ride facility is widely known as one of strategies that could help to decrease the number of private cars using and hence reduce the traffic congestion problem by providing the parking spaces for private car users to park their vehicles there and transfer to public transport. This study aims to present a new alternative of park-andride which is a park-and-ride facility with a reserved parking system to private car drivers. A park-and-ride facility with a reserved parking system allows a user to reserve a parking lot before using the service to reduce the time looking for the parking space to be zero and certainly get the lot in return. However, the user needs to pay an additional cost for reservation. The main objectives of this study are to study the mode choice behavior of private car drivers if there is the new park-and-ride alternative presented and also to analyze the effects of attributes of alternatives (travel time, travel cost, parking cost, and parking availability) on the mode choice of private car drivers. The questionnaire surveying is performed to collect the data within the congested office area near five stations of MRT Blue Line. Then, the Multinomial Logistic Regression Model is selected to analyze the total 613 observed data by using NLOGIT program. The result and the output from the program show that 45.625% of respondents choose to use the new park-and-ride alternative which is more than the percentage of respondents who choose private car and the existing park-and-ride alternative. Moreover, according to the effects of increasing in each attribute of alternatives, travel time is the most sensitive attribute that could influence private car drivers to change their traveling modes if it increases. Then, the parking availability, travel cost, and parking cost have the lower effect next below to travel time, respectively.
