AbstractRice-based diversified farming system incorporates a variety of farming practices centered around rice cultivation, integrating other crops, and raising of animals. This is to help maintain productivity, enhance profitability, improve food security and cope with production risk. The study assessed the sustainability of rice-based diversified farming system in SOCCSKSARGEN, Philippines. It utilized mixed methods where it employed the quantitative approach followed by qualitative approach. A survey questionnaire was conducted to 405 rice farmers. Ten (10) participants were purposively selected for an in-depth interview. Outcomes indicated that rice-based diversified farming practices were perceived by farmers as neither low nor highly sustainable. Multiple regression analysis found that farming experience, farming system practiced, land size, access to credit services and water irrigation sources influenced the overall sustainability of rice-based diversified farming system. Probit analysis revealed that the overall sustainability score, farmers experience, HFIAS indicator, credit access and marketing services influenced the willingness to adopt and continue rice-based diversified farming practices. Lack of knowledge, financial matter and market and value addition were the challenges identified in implementing diversified farming system. Finally, increased income, improved food security and efficient farm resource utilization were perceived as implications of diversified farming system.
