Abstract | Three-dimensional finite element analysis for the post-tensioned anchorage zone was conducted to investigate the bursting and spalling tension of the member with geometrical discontinuity. The effect of geometrical discontinuity on bursting force and spalling stress was investigated with parameters such as the sizes of different surface levels, sizes of an opening, sizes of the web thickness, the distance from the discontinuity to the end of the member, and the eccentricity. Since the AASHTO bursting force equation doesn't have the variables of the geometrical discontinuity and this equation cannot use when a discontinuity is in the general zone, comparisons with the finite element analysis results and AASHTO equation were conducted. The increased size of the geometrical discontinuity result in increased bursting force and exceed the bursting force from the AASHTO equation. In addition, when the discontinuity moved closer to the end of the member, the bursting force decreased because the area under the bursting stress curve decreased but still exceeded the AASHTO provision. On the other hand, the bursting stress increased. The sizes of the geometrical discontinuity and the distance from the discontinuity to the end of the member did not have much effect on the spalling stress. |
