AbstractThis study is based on Thailand’s national gambling survey data in 2019 in Bangkok and its vicinity of Center of Gambling Studies. Two clustering techniques, namely Hierarchical clustering and K-Means clustering were used to analyze and compare the results of people's gambling behavior, addictive status, and impacts. The Clustering technique divides the gamblers into different groups or clusters with similar characteristics. According to the study's findings, the majority of gamblers are middle aged, have an average education of Grades 10–11, and spend around 2,890 Baht per time on gambling out of their average monthly income of 18,449 Baht. In Bangkok and the surrounding area, 90% of the population participates in state and illegal lotteries. According to the PGSI score, there is a lower risk of developing problems if people play the state lottery than if you engage in other types of gambling. For this dataset, Bangkok has the most serious gambling issues. Most self-reported problems with gambling are often defined as a lack of money in everyday life and stress/mental health issues. This study shows that when the data proportion is the same, the results of both approaches are relatively comparable. K-Means Clustering is therefore more accurate and suitable for the surveyed data of social research in order to eliminate the overlapping data.
