AbstractTh is research was conducted to investigate the effect of chemical compositions, physical properties of fly ash, f l y ash cement mortar a nd fly ash cement concrete collected from t he Mae Moh lignite power plant, Lampang Province , Thailand. Three types of fly ashes were used in fly ash cement mortar. For fly ash concrete , water was added to maintain the slump 5.08 to 7.62 cm. The mechanical properties include compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and resistance against acidic attack. The test results showed that fly ashes collected from the Mae Moh power plant contained very low amounts of silicon dioxide plus aluruinum oxide contents, a n d these deficiencies caused a s l ow development or strength in fly ash mortar and concrete. Mae Mo h fly ash can be used to replace Portland cement up to 35 percent in 1 : 2.75 or 1 3.5 mortar mixes. The optimum amount of cementitious material for making fly ash concrete was 340 kg/1113 having fly ash replacement of 35 percent. Finally test results revealed that fly ash concrete possessed better tensile strength than normal concrete.
