Abstract | A microcomputer package is developed in Applesoft BASIC for the design of planar steel building frames on an Apple II system. The structural analysis program, MICROFEAP, is incorporated in this package. Modifications have been carried out, thus making it more suitable tor design use. The Australian Standards Association Steel Structures Code AS 1250-1975 is adopted as the basis for design. Relevant design recommendations of the American Institute of Steel Construction a nd the American Welding Society are also included. Three load combinations are considered for analysis and design. To account for three-dimensional effects, provisions are available for user input torsional moments and out-of-plane bending moments to be included in the design process. The metric series of universal beam and column sections manufactured by Kawasaki of Japan are included in the data bank for sectional properties. Options for built-up sections and user specified sections are available. The package also includes the design routine for welded beam to column connections. |
