AbstractThe objective of t his study is to develop a housing system with due consideration for the optimum use of ferrocement prefabricated elements so that the system will satisfy the economic, environmental a nd geographical conditions of the Republic of China . The feasibility study of at our story apartment house designed by using the prefabricated ferrocement wall and slab panels combined with in- situ reinforced concrete beams and columns housing system was carried out. A typical three-bedroom apartment. house was analyzed as a traditional beam a nd column system with equivalent diagonal struts substituted for the infilled ferrocement wall panels, and as a traditional beam an a column system with brick infill subjected to lateral and vertical loads. workings tress design method was employed Doth tor the designs of the prefabricated ferrocement components and in-situ reinforced concrete structures. A rationalized partial prefabrication approach to housing construction incorporating innovations in structural design and economy in material usage was introduced to reduce cost and construction time. An economic study comp rising the determination of construction cost and meaningful comparison r or both traditional housing system a nd system developed was conducted. The results showed that the housing system using prefabricated ferrocement panels has considerable potential and can lead to substantial savings in materials and labor. The cost comparison of the main structural works showed that the housing system developed is more competitive than the traditional one.
