AbstractThe estimation of the BOD first-order reaction rate (K1 ) and the ultimate BOD (L) is of vital importance . several methods are available but these are either too complicated or not very accurate. A modification of the RHAME's two-point method has been offered. This modified method is comparable to more complicated methods , and gives more accurate and consistent estimates than the original one. The modified least-square method of BALLAND (1980) has also been studied for its application to stream water BOD analyses. The thesis also includes a comparison study of the modified two-point method, modified least-square method and four other commonly used methods. Least-square method is the most accurate one. The moments method , the Thomas s lope yield estimates near to those obtained by the least-square method. The modified two-point method are enough accurate and consistent in estimation o f K1 and L, while the log-difference and original two-point methods are inconsistent.
