AbstractThis study is an attempt towards the post-impoundment impact assessment of important environmental components of the multipurpose Mangla Reservoir Project in Pakistan. The field investigation was carried out during October 13 to December 13, 1983 to collect pertinent data and information relating to the existing environment of the project area and its vicinity. The findings were analysed and tile results were compared with known pre-impoundment conditions, together with socio- economic and publics health surveys, observed changes in qualities of natural resources, productivity or resources and welfare of population. The impacts brought about by the project components on resettlement , fisheries , public health , sedimentation., seismic behavior, climate, Agriculture, hydroelectric power and t1ood control were ident1t1ed on the basis of their interaction with the environment besides actions to minimize damaging, to improve management and to optimize the overall benefits were given. Recommendations were made to be used as baseline information tor environmental impact study of the future water resources development project in Pakistan.
