AbstractThe e valuation of dispersion numbers tor waste stabilization ponds were done using Tracer studies in laboratory-scale, pilot-scale, a nd full-scale ponds with different geometries and flowrates, and subsequently different theoretical detention times and flow velocities. In estimating the dispersion number, d , in these pond s from c-curves which define the response at the reactor outlet to a unit impulse at the inlet, two different methods such as the variance method and the peak method were used , and then a relationship between the d values obtained from these two kinds oi determination was developed. Prom the results of tracer studies, a dispersion prediction formula for waste stabilization ponds was proposed, which gives the value or a as function of length, width, depth and fluid velocity. A design example showing the application of this formula with other formulae for BOD and fecal coliform removal in waste stabilization ponds was included.
