AbstractThis thesis deals with: 1. Constructions of the sand piles by using non displacement type, 2. Load testing on the constructed single granular piles to see the behavior of these piles. 3. Comparison of the actual behavior with the predicted behavior determined by conventional methods. One sand pile and one stone column were constructed as a single pile, seven sand piles were constructed as a group for testing purposes. All of the piles had the same diameter of 0.3 m, and same length of 8 m. To increase the bearing capacity, the sand piles were compacted by hammering. The slow maintained loading test were carried out after 10 days of pile installation. All piles were tested to failure. Inclinometer and heave gauge were installed to see the behavior of the sand pile during installation. The piezometers were installed to observe the pore pressure during and after installation. Filed vane shear, static cone penetrometer test and water content determination were carried out to see the effect of the sand piles installation on the properties of the adjacent sub soil. To predict the load-settlement curve, the essential radial stress strain data for the clay were obtained from pressuremeter test. The data obtained from load testing were then compared with the values predicted theoretically. Since the casing was installed up to the depth of 6 meters, whereas the depth of the boring were 8 meters, then the others 2 meters hole remains uncased. Shear strength at the depth below 5 meters decreased due to loosening during taking up the auger bor. The results indicated that the sand piles had the desired effect, i.e. increasing the bearing capacity of the ground and reducing the settlement. the actual behavior obtained from load testing had the similar trend with the predicted one.
