AbstractThe soil condition in the regions off the coast of North Borneo and the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, and the Gulf of Thailand is predominantly medium to highly plastic under consolidated to normally consolidated clay. Over consolidated soil had been found in par of the offshore of North Borneo and Gulf of Thailand. The most commonly used platform in this region is steel jacket pile supported platform. Open ended steel pipe pile with diameter ranging from 914 to 1219 mm are used in this region. Vessels with centered moonpool are normally applied for geotechnical investigation. One borehole per platform site is selected. Seismic devices such as echo sounder, side scan sonar, boomer and sparker were used extensively in geophysical survey. Samples near seafloor were taken by gravity corer and at depth, latch-in pushed sampler was used. Cone penetration test and in-situ vane test were performed for determination of in-situ soil properties. Empirical relationships are applied currently to evaluate the data from laboratory and in-situ tests. To estimating pile capacities for axial loads, API, Lambda and CPT methods were used. The effective stress method was used as a comparison. The axial and lateral behavior to pile were analyzed by using numerical methods . t-z, q-z and p-y curve were applied to solve for the axial and lateral deformations. The wave equation analysis, incorporated with dynamic pile testing, has been successfully used in the assessment of drivability of pile and the prediction of the pile capacity.
