AbstractThis study deals with the analysis of chemical and mineralogical composition of collapsible and dispersive soils found in the North and Northeastern part of Thailand. In order to Know the predominant chemicals and minerals present that cause the collapse a nd dispersive behavior of these soils, determination of s odium, calcium, magnesium, iron oxides and calcium carbonates were carried out for chemical analysis while X ray diffraction analysis as well as differential thermal analysis were used to determine the mineralogy o f the clay fraction of soils. Identification tests using crumb test and. pinhole test were performed on dispersive soils while Calgon test, compaction test a nd collapse test were used on collapsible soils. physical properties of these soils such as Atterberg limits, grain size distribution a nd specific gravity were a l so carried out. Lastly, chemicals and mineralogical composition of AIT oil were determined to find out how t his soil differs from collapsible and dispersive soil with regards to its chemical and mineralogical composition.
