AbstractThe two dimensional flood model previously developed by LANT I, A., (1983) is modified to cover a large area of the Eastern Bangkok Flood Plain. The model is applied to the flood flow in the year 1980. Flow in the flood plain are considered to confine in the channel. Manning Coefficients of 0.03 to 0.05 are used for the channel. Results of calibration show a consistency between observed and computed hydrographs (in both the shape of the hydrograph and its level) . A preliminary study of the effects of flood by-pass channel indicated that flood peak and its duration in the city will be reduced after the construction of flood barrier. In the flood plain on the Bangpakong River side water level will be increase by 5-10 cm. The effect of the proposed Nong Ngu Hao Airport to the change in water level and discharge around the airport is very small. Further calibration to other flood data and connection the model to the boundary conditions in the river and sea are recommended.
