Abstract | A pot experiment with sulfate soil was conducted in the laboratory at the Asian Institute of Technology to determine the available phosphorus using the Neubauer test. The experiment was done with 6 soils which were previously treated with different levels of phosphorus fertilizers, each planted with rice, maize and sorghum. The available phosphorus of the acid sulfate soil was very low as reflected by the net P uptake of the seedling. Differences in the net P uptake of the seedlings may be due to the influence of P application from previous experiment. Sorghum seedling absorbed relatively more phosphorus than did rice and maize seedlings. The available soil P determined by OLSEN was poorly correlated with the net P uptake of the seedlings. The available soil P determined by BRAY II was closely correlated with the net P uptake of the maize and sorghum seedling. The correlation coefficient of the soil P determined by BRAY II method with the net P uptake of maize and sorghum seedlings was 0.88 and 0.98, respectively. The net P uptake of the rice seedlings was poorly correlated with the available soil P determined by BRAY II and OLSEN method and with the seed yield result of the previous pot experiment. The correlation coefficient of the yield of previous pot experiment and the net P uptake of maize and sorghum seedlings was 0.99 and 0.99, respectively. |
