AbstractThis study aims to assess the potential contribution of geothermal resources to Taiwan's economic development. First, an overall perspective of the development of geothermal resources in Taiwan is described. This is followed by an investigation of island wide geothermal reserves. The performance of Ching-shui geothermal power plant is then analyzed and potential nonelectrical utiliztions are also examined. Finally, the potential contribution of geothermal energy in relation to Taiwan's economic development assessed based on the short-term and long-term exploration and exploitations programs of geothermal resources.
