AbstractRenewable energy has been developed for a long time, and it is considered to be on the top list of changes needed that the world can possibly implement to reduce impacts from climate change. Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) as a tradable energy attribute commodity have become a factor influencing implementation and development of renewable energy projects. The comparison study of the RECs in Thailand and Australia through processes of registration, fee structures, eligibility criteria, and numbers of projects indicated that Thailand I-REC system is still in an early stage and voluntary, where no corporate entity is forced to buy the certificates, which means there is slight to less demand for RECs in the country. Australia Renewable Energy Target was initially established to promote renewable energy; moreover, the system has become regulated where corporates have to use electricity from renewable energy sources. The system allows users to purchase Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) from renewable energy power producers to claim the right of using clean energy. Findings indicate that Thailand and Australia have completely different systems, and there are several points which can be discussed as a developed country and a developing country.
