Abstract | This study was undertaken to examine the spatial structure of manufacturing industry and examine the relationship between the growth of manufacturing industry and selected socio-economic conditions during 1966 to 1981. The study show that manufacturing industry developed unevenly and was concentrated in the northern and southern regions of the western coast of Taiwan. Furthermore, other economic activities and population distribution have followed the same trends as their developments are also concentrated in these districts. As a result, manufacturing industry has strongly affected the spatial structure of the economy and society during the past 20 years in Taiwan. |
