Abstract | This study looks into the impact of the Development of Diversified Forest Rehabilitation Project on the Socio-economic status of farmers in Changwat nakhon Ratchasima, Northeast Thailand and it considers the relationship between project participation and benefits derived from it. At the time of study, the project was in its third year of implementation. The objectives of this study are to determine the socio-economic status of the local farmers in the project area and in the area without project. The findings of this case study are: (1) The total net income, the net income from agriculture and the land use intensity in the project area were the same as in the area without project. (2) The labour involved in agricultural activities in the project area was lower than in the area without project. (3) There was no tangible relationship between the net income from agriculture of farmers in the project area and the degree of provision of infrastructures and services, and their satisfaction with this provision. (4) The farmers in the project area were highly satisfied with the provision of infrastructures and services. (5) An improved production by farmers in the project area was not correlated with their participation in the project activities. Recommendations are that the project should continue to support agricultural inputs, training, advice especially to the very poor farmers and also encourage them to undertake intercropping in forest plantations in order to increase their earning. The provision of infrastructures and services and their maintenance should be continued to the advantage of the farmers. |
