Abstract | Open innovation has become one of the most exciting topics among the technological firms in the recent past. Understanding oneself and others’ emotions, evaluating oneself and others’ emotions, and utilizing emotion effectively and efficiently is a challenge. Positive work relationships not only contribute to the conventional areas of career advancement, task assistance, and emotional support, but also contributes to the friendship, opportunity to give to others, and personal growth of the co-workers. Individuals in high-tech industry are currently encouraged to combine external and internal knowledge to create new ideas and new knowledge. However, firms in the emerging markets lack of skills and knowledge, which limits their innovation processes, and South and Southeast Asian countries as the research study venue is no exception. Based on the analysis using the data collected from 379 individuals, we find support for the hypothesized relationships. This study contributed to wider literature of open innovation by explaining the ability of individual-level openness to create new and useful knowledge for their firms. Furthermore, this study empirically provided evidence to the less researched, but highly important literature of emotional competencies of individuals effectiveness in work settings. Moreover, this study extends the understanding on the individual level emotional competencies and its impact on the open innovation behavior in the emerging markets. Likewise, this study provided suggestions to the multinational firm’s hiring and promotion strategies, and team managers in broad-spectrum. |
