AbstractAlthough Western financial markets have received most of the attention in finance literature, the Asia Pacific area is essential to the global economy. The adjustment of the company’s capital structure in China during global economic shocks is one of the major research gaps. Because foreign investors may join developed nations’ financial markets relatively readily, the development of the Chinese economy might result in a different reaction to economic uncertainty than in developed economies. While the literature has focused on how uncertainty affects the corporate capital structure, limited articles are related to Chinese-listed firms due to the characteristics of the Chinese economic environment. This dissertation contributes to filling the research gap by comparing the changes in corporate capital structure during and after periods of high economic uncertainty and investigates the corporate capital structures and the firm value in times of economic uncertainty to examine the regularity of the components of corporate capital from the strategic operation perspective.
