AbstractThe study presents the subsoil conditions of the coastal alluvium of West Malaysia to depth, of about forty meters. The soil consists of a series of alluvial clays. The properties of the coastal alluvium was investigated in detail and the alluvium was show to be a soft-coastal alluvium. The same pattern of subsoil formation can be expected throughout the coastal area. The quantitive properties of the soils are summarized from the soil tests of various types. the data should serve only as a guide to designers of foundations in the coastal area of West Malaysia.
