AbstractRecent research and development has highlighted the application of highway pavement deflection and deflection bowl measurements to analyze the structural condition of flexible pavements. Th e present study was used the Benkelman beam to measure surface pavement deflections at three sections on two rural roads in the outskirts of Bangkok , Thailand. Five sets of loading conditions were tested in the field to examine their effect on the pavement. Axle loads tested comprised the 8.2-ton standard, one set less than the standard and three sets greater than the standard. Analysis was based on elastic theory; properties of the deflection bowl were related to the overloading condition and effect of dual-wheels . Use was made of the applicability of parameters of the deflection bowl to determine the modulus of elasticity subgrade of the , and to evaluate pavement performance from the inter-relationship between parameters. Factors which influence highway pavement deflection were studied in some detail.
