AbstractRapid industrial development a long the transport corridors on the highways out of Bangkok are providing many job opportunities in both the formal and informal sectors. As a result, various types of housing are being developed along these corridors. A large number of industries are situated between Rangsit and AIT along the Paholyothin Highway between 32 to 42 Kilometers north of Bangkok. Housing settlements, including Low-income housing , can De seen along this highway , along the canals, the lanes (sois) as well a s the railway track: near these industries. A number of housing estates a real o coming up in this area. This means that there exists a housing supply system through which a range of households, including persons working in this area, can get access to affordable housing This study investigates the range of housing provision in a case study urban-fringe area of Bangkok, an area with a large amount of industrial developmett. The aim is to understand the housing supply precess in metropolitan expansion, particularly the housing supply for low-income households. The study finds the housing development process in the area as varied and taking place by the uncontrolled development of scattered land parcels. The growth of population and the development of various types of housing are very much stimulated by the growth of employment establishments in the area. The study provides a starting point for further research on the area so that policy measures can be formulated to control the haphazard development of the area and to guide its proper urban expansion.
