Abstract | A roof is the most important part of a shelter. It consumes the major part of housing cost. Present roofing systems for low-cost housing do not offer an optimum solution to the roofing problems. Th ere is need, therefore to search for an appropriate roofing technology. This study concentrates on prefabrication of roofing components which can De handled at the local level by semi-skilled labour. These components when joined together with the help of in-situ concreting can cover a span up to 5 meters. The whole process of casting a n d assembling was demonstrated in a tile producing factory in Bangkok. The results were found to be satisfactory and conforming with the initial objectives of the research. However, certain drawbacks were noted which need to be improved to make the system feasible for low cost roofing. |
