Abstract | This study con siders an overall production planning problem. one crucial aspect is identified, that is the need tor an appropriate s stem which can bring a bout an interaction between the decision maker, and analyst in the production planning with multiple objectives. The interactive goal programming (IGP) technique is developed using pairwise comparisons of the values or objective functions which are given to the decision maker . The pattern search technique is selected for incorporation into the interactive goa~ programming method. In order to obtain the objective of the study , a microcomputer-based interactive goa l programming {MIGP) is developed to give the opportunity to the decision maker to select a satisfactory solution among various noninferior solutions. A goal programming model for the aggregate production planning in a small diesel engine assembly factory is developed. The model considers three commonly occurring goals in this industry. These are (1 ) minimization of the total production cost ; (2 ) maintain a balance of workforce level; and (3 ) minimization o f the deviation between the actual production level and the level which is specified by the government's regulation through the Board of investment (BOI). An interactive approach , is used to solve this problem. The numerical examples illustrating the approach are presented, and computational experience is discussed. .. |
