AbstractThe purpose of this study was to design a suitable solar receiver for a small Stirling The performance characteristics curves of the test engine were found using an electrically heated coil as the neat supply. It was found that the friction loss was very nigh. The shaft output power and thermal efficiency of the engine varied widely with speed. The best set of the performance curves were selected in the design of a solar receiver for the test engine. The design was conducted to determine the basic dimensions of a solar receiver for the test engine to which heat is supplied by concentrated sunlight. In the design, the surface area for the neat transfer was taken into main consideration. A mild steel tube was chosen as the receiver material and formed into spiral coils . The required numbers of spiral coils were estimated in order to obtain the sufficient surface area for heat transfer for different receiver and fluid temperatures.
