Abstract | A field experiment in acid sulfate soil with soybean was conducted at the Asian Institute o f Technology Research Center to determine the response to varying levels of soil and fertilizer-phosphorus. Soil tests tor available phosphorus by Bray II method showed better correlation with dry seed yield than Olsen method f or both without application (0.78 and 0.67 respectively) or with application (0.82 and 0.73 respectively ) of phosphorus-fertilizer. Determination of plant parameters such. as phosphorus concentration in plant, weight of dry matter, height, number of leaves and number or pods gave higher correlation coefficients with yield than the soil tests. A good response was observed with increasing level of soil-phosphorus and with the application o f concentrated super phosphate as the phosphorus-fertilizer. Average yields without phosphorus application and with 200 kg concentrated super, phosphate/ ha were 100 and 1814 kg dry seed/ha respectively. Applications of 50 and 100 kg concentrated super phosphate/ha increased the yield significantly, but a higher rate of application caused an increase in yield which was not significant . Concentration of K and Mn by plants was increased by increasing rate of phosphorus- fertilizer application while the concentrations of Na, Al and Zn were decreased. |
