| Abstract | Encroachment of forest land for timber stealing and for practicing shifting of settled cultivation which have been done by the peoples, was resulting in the alteration of forest land cover. In this study that alteration was detected based upon the Landsat data of Nov. 13, 1979 and Jan.o4, 1982 the other reference data : Topographic map scale 1 : 50,000, Land use map at part of the study site and false-color infrared aerial photographs scale 1 : 50,000 which were taken in May, 1983, and for image processing facility which was used is DIMAPSAR. there are more than one method of detection of Land cover alteration. Because of the difference in scale of Landsat data used. Post Classification method was applied. In this method, classified images were compared manually under the zoom transfer scope, and its results, were displayed in the map as a Land cover alteration map. Preceded by image selection and normalization, classification was done and four classes of cover type were derived: dry evergreen forest, dry dipterocarp forest, swidden area and unclassified area. The detected alteration in this study, excluding the cloud cover areas, are the reduction of dry evergreen forest, which were replaced by swidden area, and the reduction of dry dipterocarp forest, which were replaced by swidden area. Another detected alterations are from swidden area to dry evergreen forest, and dry dipterocarp forest. |
