AbstractThe purpose of this research is to study the squatter resettlement experiences in Rangoon in order to make a comparative study between d1tferent squatter resettlements which were resettled in different periods under different circumstances. The comprehensive approach of the study , which includes physical, social, economic , planning, implementation and management aspects, is used to find out the common factors and issues determining the level of satisfaction of the resettles. Three wards, resettled in three different time periods were investigated in Thaketa Township Resettlement in Rangoon. Emphasis was laid upon testing the hypotheses that the length of stay in the settlement and socio-economic status oft he people can change their opinions on the physical and socio-economic characteristics. A comprehensive analyses of the three phases of Resettlements Programs were undertaken, Major physical, socio-economic and political factors effecting each phase of the program were considered. The effects of changes in physical infrastructure, social infrastructure, socio-economic conditions, community facilities and general amenities, community participation and the planning, implementation and management on the overall success of the program were studied.
