Abstract1he field performance tests were performed on a Yanmar direct sowing machine, 6 rows, gasoline engine, walking type which is used for a new direct sowing method operated in puddled soil conditions. Before sowing the rice seed is coated with Gulper Dust (coating agent) and then sown by the machine at a depth of about 1 cm. Calper Dust (coating agent) released oxygen gradually in the soil and surrounds the seed with oxygen, enabling the seed to germinate even beneath the puddled soil. Three different plots and twenty four pots were done in this experiment. These pots tests were selected to compare germination percentage of coated seeds and non-coated seeds. The field performance tests show that the direct sowing machine works best when ·the average depth of hard pan is about 20 cm and 1-2 cm deep standing water is available in the field. The amount of seed needed for sowing is one third that of the conventional method. 1he new direct sowing method may achieve an equivalent yield or better yield in rice production in comparison with the transplanting cultivation method and can grow the rice three times in one year.
