AbstractAS a step towards devel oping a village size refrigerator, a new design for the intermittent absorption system is being developed by Dr. R.H.B. Exell . This study investigates the design of the Solar collector (Model III) used as generator- cum- absorber in the system. The main improvement is the use of a combined downcomer-cum- reservoir which aids in a faster production of ammonia. This unit, with a collecting area of 0.6 m2 is expected to produce about 0.95 kg of liquid ammonia, equivalent to 2.2 kg of ice in a day.
