AbstractA detailed study has been made for the calibrations of solar cells and modules to be used for terrestrial applications. The Normal Incidence Pyrheliometer (NIP) method has been used for calibration of the Reference Solarex Cell and also the test cell. Comprehensive information regarding procedures and the determination of related atmospheric parameters has been reviewed and compiled. A method for transforming the electrical characteristics of solar cells at any insolation and temperature to standard Test Conditions has been described in detail. This method was applied to evaluate the performance of the test cell. An idea of the -. thermal behaviour of solar cell modules was obtained by determining the Nominal Operating Cell Temperature (NOCT) according to standard procedures. A laboratory experiment to evaluate the convective heat transfer coefficient of the module was carried out and results compared with the values reported elsewhere. Also an analytical method is presented to compute the module temperature theoretically.
