AbstractPump is very essential to water supply in rural area in developing country. This study deals first with different kinds of pumps used in rural areas, their suitability etc. The study then gives some guidelines in selecting pump in rural area. The most important criteria that should be considered in the selection are the easiness in purchasing the pump and simplicity in operation and maintenance. Finally an example cost analysis is discussed.
