Abstract | Today , low-cost housing represents a serious national problem in both developing and developed countries. The problem Furthermore continues to grow as socio-economic, cultural, climatic, geographical, and constraints. Low-cost housing is clearly a high priority programme for all countries of the world. The problems, generated by population explosion only in developing countries, are so enormous that costs alone disqualify high technological means as a possible solution. Therefore, this study endeveours to deal only with alternative low-cost, labour intensive technology combined with the use of indigenous building materials. In this area, locally available building materials have been studied based on available literatures and publications. An attempt has been made to analyze different construction technologies with these building materials in terms of their applications in in building components. Three examples of low-cost housing projects are also included in this study. The references of the literatures and publications studied are added at the end. |
